Programme Overview Programme Overview

Classroom theory in Introduction to the Radio Regulations, Safety of Life at Sea, Procedures, Equipment Carried, Documents Carried.

Practical theory & instruction on Very High Frequency (VHF), MF,HF, DSC, INMARSAT Navigation Telex (NAVTEX), Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons  (EPIRBS) and Search and Rescue Transponder (SARTs), batteries, Aerials logsheets.

STCW – GMDSS General Operators Certificate issued by BIM on behalf of  Department of Transport.

Entry Requirements

Working in the Seafood Industry or Public Service.

Progression & Employment Opportunities

An essential ancillary course for a learner to obtain a Certificate of Competency (Fishing).

This certification will enable the learner to sail as radio operators worldwide in Sea Area A1, A2, A3 and A4.

Assessment

Written and practical examinations.
